Vaginitis (inflammation of the vagina)

It is mainly caused by fungi, trichomonades and other microorganisms.

Clinical manifestations

  • Vaginal irritation and pain.
  • Increased vaginal discharge.
  • Foul-smelling and abnormal vaginal discharge.
Some women with vaginitis do not have symptoms.

How does it spread?
  • By sexual intercourse
  • Although men have no symptoms, they can transmit the disease.
Some common causes of vaginitis are: pregnancy, antibiotics, menstrual period or diabetes, because they can alter the vaginal environment.

If you don’t get treated
  • Symptoms remain.
  • You may infect your sexual partner(s).
  • Men are more susceptible to develop prostate infection and urethritis.
